- Realme may be queuing up to launch foldable phones and undercamera camera phones in 2022.
- It happens after a teaser from the brand’s marketing manager.
- Judging by Realme’s pricing strategy, we would not be surprised to see it undercut them as Samsung either.
Foldable phones are still well out of reach for most people. Sure, you can now have the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 for under $ 1,000, but what if you want a bigger screen? Well, it seems that Realme is the latest company to throw its weight behind the folding mold heading into 2022.
Xu Qi Chase, Realme’s marketing manager, recently released a teaser for Weibo, claiming that phones with “under screen and folds” will “mature further” on the way into the new year. This statement probably speaks for itself, but it probably also signals the brand’s intention to launch foldable phones and camera devices below the display.
2022: The year of the affordable foldable?
In particular, we’ve seen lots of smartphone companies associated with upcoming folders, including Vivo and Oppo. We have not yet seen any of these companies launch regular foldable phones, but it is interesting that another BBK brand in Realme is now promoting the foldable agenda.
According to early rumors, Oppo has reportedly delayed its foldable phone to 2022, which may include a 7.7-inch foldable screen and a much smaller outer screen. Other rumors pointed to a larger Vivo device with an 8-inch main screen and a 6.5-inch external screen. It is unclear what design philosophy Realme would apply.
Either way, if Realme is serious about launching a folding phone in 2022, it’s entering an arena dominated by Samsung. Although the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the most polished large foldable phone to date, it is still a great investment of $ 1,800. Realme has traditionally undercut its big rivals with its flagship phones. Applying the same strategy with its collapsible can give us the cheaper alternative consumers have long been waiting for.
We’ll have to wait until 2022 to see how it all plays out and whether Realme debuts its first foldable in the new year.
